From Banker to Baker: Phialdelphia Woman Finds Fame Through Jewish Apple Cake

Philadelphia,PA(Spring ,2001)- Seven years ago, Northeast resident, Roz Bratt could be found in Olde City's Mellon bank-as its coporate teller. Today, instead of counting money, she counts cookies-and other delicacies-as owner/baker of Homemade Goodies at 510 South 5th Street--just off South Street.

Roz's baking hobby turned pro when she sold a Jewish Apple Cake to an Olde City restaurant. Now she supplies "homemade goodies"to many cafe's, restaurants, & caters in the Phila. area.

Besides filling orders for local businesses, Roz also caters to the local residents by fashioning her shop after her grandmother's kitchen of the 1940's &1950's. Antique kitchen utensils, an assortment of tea pots and old-fashioned table and chair sets fill the bakery.

"I want the neighbors to use my bakery as their home away from home," said Roz. "Whether they are stopping in for coffee, tea, picking up a birthday cake, they can use my place to sit and relax."

Homemade Goodies is located at 510 South 5th Street and is open daily Tuesdays through Saturdays. On Saturday mornings- from 10am to 2pm-breakfast is served.
